FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS’ Jemaine Clement Introduces First Look at His MOANA Villain

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS’ Jemaine Clement Introduces First Look at His MOANA Villain

Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to start focusing on the holiday season ahead, and the batch of big movies that comes along with it! Of course there are few holiday films that have us excited as much as Disney’s Moana, and our latest video look at the animated offering has us more pumped than ever for its South Seas adventure. Also in this special Día de los Muertos edition of Movie Morsels, we’ve got word on a live-action Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (!), the latest on the Flash movie, and so much more…

Moana

Don’t worry if you didn’t score yourself any treats last night, because we’ve got one for you right here. Lately, a lot of our Moana-related attention has been going to Dwayne Johnson’s Maui and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho’s title heroine (as well as Lin-Manuel Miranda’s songs). But the film also has an impressive supporting cast, which includes fan-favorite actor-comedian-musician Jemaine Clement, of Flight of the Conchords fame. Clement, as he explains in the following video introduction to his character, voices a villainous giant magical hermit crab named Tamatoa. Fittingly enough, Disney released this first look at the movie monster on Halloween…

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Snow White

And speaking of Disney, you didn’t really think the Mouse wasn’t going to produce a live-action Snow White, did you? Not after the blockbuster success the studio had with Cinderella, Maleficent, and Alice in Wonderland. No, of course not. Well then, you’ll be happy to hear that the film is now officially in development, with Girl on the Train screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson writing the script. The big selling point thus far, however, is that the adaptation will features new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo who created the tunes for the upcoming La La Land, along with Hugh Jackman’s Greatest Showman on Earth. So I’ve no doubt we’ll all be whistling while we work again very soon.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Now this is interesting. Wondering what Tim Miller is up to now that he’s no longer involved with the sequel to his megahit Deadpool? Well, wonder no more! The director is developing a movie based on everyone’s favorite spunky, spiky blue rodent-driven video game franchise Sonic the Hedgehog. Miller is executive producing the movie for his longtime Blur Studio companion Jeff Fowler to direct. Just don’t take too long, fellas—you know what an impatient guy Sonic is!

The Flash

Uh oh. The Scarlet Speedster’s first-ever solo film is in a bit of trouble. Warner Bros’ The Flash has lost its director Rick Famuyiwa over that thorny ol’ issue of “creative differences.” This will likely delay the film’s March 2017 start date as well as its March 16, 2018 release date. But I can’t say I’m crying a river over here. After all, we still have Grant Gustin doing quite a fine job every week on the CW’s Flash TV show.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage

xxx-12

After waiting this long for Vin Diesel to return to its xXx franchise, Paramount isn’t taking any chances with next year’s Return of Xander Cage. So the studio has recruited a massive all-star cast, comprising everyone from Nina Dobrev to Samuel L. Jackson to Toni Collette to Donnie Yen to Tony Jaa, to welcome Diesel back. Now, each of these folks has received one of 13 character posters you can check out in a gallery at the bottom of this page. Thirteen! Man, I don’t think even the Toy Story movies have given us that many character posters for a single film. Of course the Toy Story movies don’t have the tank of slow-burn charisma that is our beloved Vinnie D!

Baywatch

Awww… The folks behind the upcoming Baywatch movie took some time out of their busy schedule to wish us all a happy Halloween yesterday. As only they can, with lots of toned flesh on display. So enjoy the costumes selected by the film’s cast, including a superheroic Dwayne Johnson, a vampish Priyanka Chopraa, a gold-medal winning Zac Efron, and a most devilish Alexandra Daddario…
