Could DC’s FLASHPOINT Give Us the Funniest Barry Allen Ever?

Do the new Flashpoint directors point towards DC wanting its films to have more comedic elements like Justice League, and will friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Tom Holland be making an unexpected appearance in Sony’s Venom movie? We untangled the web of superhero movie reports on today’s Nerdist News Talks Back, along with a big video game round-up.

Jessica Chobot was joined today by producer Jason Nguyen, Nerdist News writer Joey Clift, and Nerdist editor Kyle Anderson, and they began with reports Tom Holland was spotted on the Sony (a.k.a. not Marvel) set of Venom. Does this mean what we think it means? Will the “Sony-verse” become an extended part of the MCU? Or is this merely some clever misdirection? And do we even want to see both characters in a movie together, or did Spider-Man 3 ruin that forever?

Speaking of Peter Parker, DC’s Flashpoint (finally) has its directors, with the duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming and directed the Vacation remake, taking over. Does their comedic background point towards the DCEU continuing in a more lighthearted direction? Is this the right pair to lead the film, or would we have preferred the team of Chris Miller and Phil Lord? Would Ben Affleck, who reportedly turned down the chance to direct the movie, have been an even better option? Would it have allowed him to direct his own departure from Batman? And does this prove how desperate DC is to keep him in the fold?

Finally they wrapped things up with a big video game round-up, including whether it’s too late for Microsoft to develop a new game for the Fable franchise, if Fox’s new Alien shooter is the right direction for that property or if they should do something different, and what Nintendo’s big interactive Switch announcement might be.

As always Nerdist News Talks Back airs live every weekday at 1:00 p.m. PT on our YouTube and Alpha channels, where you can be a part of the conversation with us. And you never know who might show up! Maybe Tom Holland will make an appearance…or someone dressed up as Spider-Man who wanders around the office all day. Either way, it’s a lot of fun.
