It’s been 15 years since Fred Rogers passed away, but his legacy lives on. For over three decades, Rogers served as the host of his beloved children’s program Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Rogers taught generations of kids the value of kindness; and he always reminded everyone they were worthy of love. Tom Hanks will portray Rogers in a new biopic, currently called Untitled Mr. Rogers / Tom Hanks Project and once known as You Are My Friend. Today’s Nerdist News is all about the internet’s reaction to the first look at Hanks in Rogers’ signature red sweater.
Join host and the Neighborhood of Make-Believe’s favorite resident, Jessica Chobot, as she showcases a side of the internet we don’t see very often. It can seem like many people only live to tear everything down, no matter how innocuous. That’s why it’s so heartening to watch so many fans embrace Hanks as Mister Rogers. You see? We can have nice things.
Tom Hanks is playing Mr. Rogers in a movie and it’s like looking through a wormhole that goes back to the good world we used to know and love. https://t.co/9g0CpfZgyl

It helps that Hanks is one of the most beloved performers of his generation and a two-time Oscar winner for Best Actor. He has quite the knack for playing real world figures, including Walt Disney, Richard Phillips, Jim Lovell, Charlie Wilson, and Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.
The movie is slated to hit theaters in October 2019.
