Final Trailer for INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 and New Poster Come Online!

This evening the final trailer for Insidious: Chapter 3 hit the web and featured almost all new footage in anticipation for the June 5 release date. The third installment is both written and directed by franchise co-star Leigh Whanell after Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 director James Wan vacated the director’s chair but still remains involved with the series as a producer.

We learned with the first teaser that Chapter 3 would be a prequel to the entire Insidious story. The film, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

One of the things I love that they address in the new trailer is the idea that if a living person is talking to good spirits, bad ones can still hear them too. It was an idea that was briefly touched on in Paranormal Activity 2 that they never quite followed through on. We see so many movies about malevolent supernatural beings, I like that it seems like the new Insidious story at least sort of addresses the different kinds of beings lurking in the spirit world.

In terms of Insidious being a prequel, I am wondering how connected all of the movies will end up being outside of the commonality of the Elise, Specs and Tucker characters. Will the Lipstick Demon reemerge? Is it a “prequel” because it’s ultimately going to be Elise’s origin story?

Watch the new trailer and check out the poster below. Insidious: Chapter 3 hits theaters on June 5!
