Horror Happenings: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Update, INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3 Teaser Poster and More!

Happy almost Halloween! We here at Nerdist couldn’t be more excited for this spooky time of year, and so we are very pleased to introduce you to our weekly Horror Happenings round up, bringing you all the latest in horror news. Since I was on assignment for horror related events last Friday, today we’re covering two weeks of things you need to know, including sales coming out of Austin’s Fantastic Fest, more reboots and reimaginings coming your way, and new posters and trailers. And with that, let’s get to it!

It’s a Lannister Family Reunion In Pride And Prejudice And Zombies Casting News

First Doctor Who and now Game of Thrones, PAPAZ is turning out to be one of the most potentially nerdy movies ever! After being stuck in development hell for years, it looks like Seth Grahame-Smith retelling of the Jane Austin classic is finally moving forward after announcing first that Matt Smith would be joining the cast, followed by a Lannister family reunion of sorts with the addition of Lena Heady and Charles Dance to the film. Igby Goes Down and 17 Again director Burr Steers is attached to direct. [Deadline]

Aaron Paul Joining Alexandre Aja’s Latest The 9th Life of Louis Drax

While I’ve always argued that Breaking Bad was a sneaky genre show (essentially a mad scientist/monster story in the vein of Cronenberg’s The Fly) Aaron Paul is no stranger to traditional horror, having starred in The Last House On The Left remake produced by Wes Craven. Craven also produced The Hills Have Eyes remake directed by Alexandre Aja, who will also directs The 9th Life of Louis Drax. It’s like a super bloody version of connect the dots! [Variety]

Fantastic Fest Winner Best Picture – Horror Winner The Babadook Gets US Trailer

The Babadook has proven to be “The Little Engine That Could” in the 2014 horror scene. The feature film debut of writer/director Jennifer Kent, The Babadook is a scary, simple movie that has been finding much success on the festival circuit. IFC Midnight is releasing the film stateside this November and now we have a US trailer, which I think is a much more accurate representation of the film than the trailer released a few weeks ago. Justin Benson & Aaron Moorehead’s Spring Gets Distribution

The directors of 2013’s Resolution, Benson and Moorehead have found distribution on their follow up, the genre-blending Spring. Spring was the first sale to come out of Fantastic Fest in Austin and will be released in, wait for it, the early spring of 2015 on both VOD and theatrically. [Deadline]

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension Coming Your Way in 2015

If you’ve been reading my horror musings on Nerdist.com over the past year or so, you know that I love the Paranormal Activity franchise. The Blumhouse produced series has run into a bit of trouble recently with the less than positive reception for PA 4 (rightfully so) and The Marked Ones not making as much money as is usually expected for the films. The Paranormal train keeps chugging away, though, with the announcement that Paramount has finally settled on a release date: March 13, 2015. The movie, previously titled Paranormal Activity 5, will now be called Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, leading this nerd to believe that those crazy happenings at the end of The Marked Ones? Perhaps that was our first encounter with “The Ghost Dimension?” [EW]

Insidious Chapter 3 Gets a Teaser Poster

Another Blumhouse franchise that I’m totally in love with is Insidious. While Chapter 2 may have put off some people, the wackier the better if you ask me. Chapter 3 sees some new faces joining the cast while co-star and writer Leigh Whannell is sitting in the director’s chair for the first time with James Wan on board as a producer. Many people have speculated that the Darth Maul demon will return after being absent from the second film. What do you think? Insidious Chapter 3 hits theaters May 29, 2015. [Insidious Facebook]

I Know What You Did Last Summer to Be Rebooted by Oculus Writer/Director Mike Flannagin

In news that I can’t believe without a side of an Arrested Development-style, “Him?,” Oculus director Mike Flannagin has been tapped to write the script for a reboot of the teen-slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer. The original two movies were based on the YA novel by Lois Duncan and capitalized on the success of Wes Craven’s Scream. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of Oculus, it was a very well made movie, and I know that Flannagan knows his horror, but I just don’t see this pairing making a whole lot of sense. I suppose we’ll all find out more soon enough… The reboot has not announced a director. [Deadline]

The Guest’s Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett to Make the American Version of I Saw The Devil

In more news that I would have never seen coming, The Guest and You’re Next director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett have been tapped to create an American version of the Korean revenge flick I Saw The Devil. While it’s only seeing a small theatrical release, The Guest opened last weekend to a healthy box office and very strong reviews, which must have been enough to land Wingard and Barrett the gig. Before you cry out, “Remake blasphemy!”, I would suggest you take a breath and think about it. If I had to guess, this will be an interpretation more in line with the American version of The Departed (read: stylistically very different) than, say, the American version of Let The Right One In, which for the record I still like very much and is a perfectly good movie so get over it. [The Wrap]

Dimension to Delay Both Amityville: The Awakening and James Wan-Produced Demonic

Last but certainly not least, in a bit of head scratcher news, both the new Amityville movie and the James Wan-produced Demonic have been removed from the Dimension release schedule. Demonic was due out in December and Amityville expected in January 2015. The latter even released a trailer last month. There has been no reason given for pulling the films and no new release dates announced, either. Weird, right? [Bloody Disgusting]

Which of the above horror flicks are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below.

Stop. Seriously. Just stop. Stop this nonsense.
Stop with the reboots. Just release the original films in theaters again. It will cost you less money, and odds are they were better than anything you could attempt today. Though “I Know What You Did Last Summer” sucked, I don’t think you could make it better.
Stop stealing from foreign films and replacing the characters with white Americans. Just show better support for these creations by helping them get better attention and wider releases in the states.
Stop Blumhouse. Everything from this company is crap. “Paranormal Activity,” “Insidious,” “Sinister,” “The Lords of Salem,” “Dark Skies,” “The Purge,” “Oculous,” …”Tooth Fairy.”
Stop James Wan. He has yet to make a decent film. All of his horror films are terrible. The only reason I didn’t die of boredom watching “Insidious” is because the music and sound effects came blasting through my speakers every 5 minutes.
Stop with the sequels to these movies. If you can’t get it right the first time, move on to something else. At the very least, release them straight to home video or VOD so I will never hear about them.
I understand this was a bit wordy and most people today can’t read anything over 140 characters long. So I ask you to watch this video from CinemaSins Jeremy. He puts together an easy 10 step program for fixing most of the problems with the horror genre. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYtw_QIGLHE&list=UU-tOak37G5g2Xd1Ag-EKEnQ
