FINAL FANTASY XV Won’t Have Huge E3 Presence, Opting for Gamescom Instead

When Square Enix revealed that they were planning on hosting their own press conference at E3 this year, the first thing that came to a lot of people’s minds was that they’d be focusing a lot on Final Fantasy XV. As one of the company’s biggest franchises, it was almost a no-brainer that we’d be seeing more on the next entry in the series. However, what many expected to have been a sure thing at the expo was just thrown out the window when the title’s director Hajime Tabata revealed that the next phase in the game’s marketing plan will actually begin at Gamescom instead.

According to the recent Active Time Report (translated by DualShockers), Tabata notes that the company wouldn’t have enough time to prepare what they’d want to show for the June press event. With that being said, he reveals that Gamescom–which takes place two months after E3–is where the company will start to promote the full game.

If you’ll remember, Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae–an extensive playable demo of Final Fantasy XV–shipped with Final Fantasy Type-O last month. In fact, the only way you’d be able to get your hands on the code was through purchasing the HD remake of the 2011 PSP title. The company believes it reached a huge milestone by releasing that, which makes sense considering the fact that it serves as a prologue to the upcoming game.

While the title won’t be seeing a big presence at the expo this year, they will still be present in a smaller capacity. Tabata notes that there will be a smaller trailer available at E3 which will function as more of a teaser for what’s to come.

Though Final Fantasy XV won’t be completely left out of the E3 shenanigans, it has left me wondering what Square Enix has up their sleeves for the dedicated conference. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided? Rise of the Tomb Raider? Kingdom Hearts III complete with newly added Marvel chara  It’s clear that whatever it is, they obviously think it is enough to warrant their own separate conference.

Are you disappointed with this news, or are you okay with holding out until Gamescom? Let us know in the comments below.
