FANTASTIC BEASTS Video About Ilvermorny School Hints at Things to Come

On the peak of Mount Greylock in the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts sits one of the greatest hidden secrets of the magical world: Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It appears more and more as though that great institution is going to play an important role in the new Harry Potter prequel film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Last week, author J.K. Rowling released a new story on Pottermore, telling the tale of the creation of the Ilvermorny. And now Warner Bros. has released a powerful short companion video to her piece. The beautiful teaser highlights the school’s founder, Isolt Sayre, and her marriage to a Muggle (NoMaj), as well as Isolt’s battle to protect her family and home from her evil aunt, the protective properties of Ilvermorny, and one very old, very important, stolen wand.

It was this past March when Rowling released four history pieces explaining the past of magic in the New World, all of which pointed to important elements and exposition for Fantastic Beasts, but with Warner Bros. releasing this video to go along with her latest historical telling, (which was also much longer and more in-depth than the others), it seems as though Ilvermorny will play a vital role in Newt Scamander’s story of coming to America.

Rowling isn’t just expanding the Harry Potter universe through a new film. She is crafting an entire and unique world of magic here in America, complete with its own traditions, heroes, and legends that go well beyond the big screen.

Now if she could just take the time to explain why we never got our letters to Ilvermorny…

What do you think the role of Ilvermorny will be in Fantastic Beasts? Tell us your best theories in the comments below.
