Edgar Wright Will Explore the Shadows in New Animated Film

For several years, DreamWorks Animation has been developing a film called Me & My Shadow. Now, DWA is bringing in Edgar Wright to completely rework the movie into an entirely new project.

Wright will co-write and direct an original animated feature film that “centers on the concept of shadows.” This will be Wright’s first time as the director of an animated film (even though he co-wrote The Adventures of Tintin, which was also animated). Wright’s previous films include the cult comedy classics Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Shawn of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz. Wright also spent several years on Marvel’s Ant-Man before leaving the project over creative differences.

Comedian and children’s book writer David Walliams (Little Britain) will co-write the project with Wright.

“My first endeavors in film-making as a teenager were in animation, so it was hugely intriguing to get a call from DreamWorks Animation about potentially directing,” related Wright in a press release. “When the shadows concept was suggested to me, I could see the poster, the title sequence and pretty much the whole movie. It’s a blast writing this and to have one of my oldest friends in comedy, David Walliams, along for the adventure is a thrill.”

Wright is currently working on his next live-action film, Baby Driver, with Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, and Kevin Spacey already lined up for the project. Recently, it was announced that Wright is also producing an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s children’s book, Fortunately, The Milk.
