DISNEY Favorites Are Honored as Gorgeous Works of Art in New Gallery Show

The Disney Animation renaissance of the 1980s and ’90s led to some of these decades’ most beloved movies across the board, thanks to filmmakers Ron Clements and John Musker. This duo is responsible for Disney greats The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, The Great Mouse Detective, and one of my favorites from the post 2000s, Treasure Planet. You can see also see their influence on Disney’s last hand-drawn animated film The Princess and the Frog.

To celebrate the release of Disney’s next animated film Moana, Cyclops Print Works and Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA are showcasing that artwork with “An Art Tribute to the Disney Films of Ron Clements and John Musker” gallery show.

The roster of tribute artists include JC Richard, Tom Whalen, Brittney Le, Mark Englert and many more. Slashfilm gives us a peek at the artwork on display, showcasing gorgeous interpretations of favorite Disney characters in their element—scenes like Aladdin and Jasmine flying high over Agrabah, and Hercules going from zero to hero fighting Cerberus. Maybe it’s the change in the weather but I’m in love with the deep autumn oranges and purples used in the print for The Great Mouse Detective, an underrated Disney gem that needs a rewatch immediately.

To kick up the excitement for Moana, El Capitan in Hollywood is having screenings of classic Clements and Musker films and Cyclops Print Works is helping support the event with limited-edition handbill giveaways.

As if the special guests will be showing up for each screening weren’t enough, the first 200 guests in line will get a handbill featuring artwork by Joe Dunn and the first 50 guests get the opportunity for autograph signing by Clements and Musker on the dates they will be appearing. These events are a must for any Disney animation fan.

Check out more of the pieces in the gallery below. An Art Tribute to the Disney Films of Ron Clements and John Musker opens November 19 at Gallery Nucleus and will be on display until December 6.
