And when we say Deadpool’s talking about “manhood,” we mean literally. As in, he’s talking about his penis. Just in case you somehow, at this late date, didn’t realize it’s going to be that kind of movie.
Fun fact: I work part-time at a movie theater that shows mostly independent/art-house fare and caters to an older clientele, yet because we played The Revenant, Fox attached a Deadpool red-band trailer. While there were many shaking heads afterward, the mostly senior crowd did heartily laugh at the scene in which Negasonic Teenage Warhead is too busy texting to fight. So there may be more crossover with the frustrated grandparent crowd than you’d imagine, especially once they get a load of Blind Al.
Not that this new promo, courtesy of MTV, is aiming in that direction, you understand. It’s playing up the joke that was in play since the movie’s release date was announced–come see a movie about a foul-mouthed, ultra-violent super-ninja on Valentine’s Day! It’s also emphasizing that if you’re coming to see the movie because you think Ryan Reynolds looks hot, you may be utterly disappointed, unless you happen to have a Freddy Krueger fetish as well.
The truth is that Deadpool is a better date movie than you might think. Take the one that you love, and if you both share an opinion of it afterward, pro or con, you’re probably a good match. Now, watch Ryan Reynolds make with the funny already.
Will you be taking your one and only to see Deadpool? Let us know now…then come back and tell us how it went in a week or so.
