DEADPOOL Ups the Action in New IMAX Featurette (Exclusive)

Just because the Deadpool we’re used to seeing comes in the form of 2-D panels, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t do well in the biggest, most immersive version of action cinema imaginable. Director Tim Miller’s Deadpool is getting the IMAX treatment for its release, and that means that the picture and sound will be digitally re-mastered to create a more epic moviegoing experience. In a new exclusive IMAX featurette, Miller touches upon his comic book fandom and expands upon his belief that Deadpool is well-suited for IMAX.

“Comic books are sort of the perfect medium for epic storytelling,” said Miller. “And IMAX is all about epic film presentation. So, you bring those two things together and you’ve got epic squared. It’s a great way to see them come to life…I couldn’t be more proud of the work that everybody put into it. It’s a great honor to do a movie and to have millions of people around the world see it. But to see it in IMAX, which is this premiere format, it just doesn’t get any better than that.”

The featurette includes a few glimpses at Deadpool’s origin, his justification for wearing a brightly colored suit, and, of course, a taste of the action. In the video, Miller also explained how Deadpool differs in tone from the X-Men films that spawned it.

“Deadpool is a very grounded comic book hero,” related Miller. “He lives in a s*** apartment, and he deals with s*** people, and his life is not filled with chrome and fast jets and everything else. In fact, I think it’s kind of the perfect contrast to the shinier sides of the Marvel Universe.”

The Deadpool movie will explode into theaters on Friday, February 12.
