DEADPOOL Animated Series Test Footage Makes Us Even Sadder It’s Not Happening

Years ago, leaked test footage helped the Deadpool live-action movie become a reality. Since the news hit our crying eyes that Donald Glover‘s Deadpool animated series was scrapped by FXX over “creative differences,” we can only hope history will repeat itself. The animation studio Titmouse has released its test footage for the Deadpool animated series. While this clip doesn’t feature Glover’s performance as the title character, it does use Ryan Reynolds‘ vocal samples from the first Deadpool movie. Fair warning, this is a very NSFW video due to language and over-the-top violence.

The Deadpool animation test was directed by Barry J. Kelly, and it captures the kinetic chaos of the title character in just over a minute of footage. Instead of pitting Deadpool against the generic goons from the beginning of his feature film, the bad guys have been replaced by masked men and their cyborg Beastman-like crime boss.

The unfinished footage still manages to capture the spirit of Deadpool, as he behaves like a living cartoon while shrugging off the loss of his limbs and recovering from all injuries within seconds. His adversaries are not as fortunate, as he dispatches them in quick order. We never even got to learn the cyborg’s name before Deadpool introduced his head to the helicopter blades.

Given the tone of Glover’s recent tweets about the series, it seems unlikely he will remain with this project if Marvel tries to find another network for it. That said, this test footage makes a pretty strong case for Deadpool in animation, and we believe he will eventually get his own animated series. It’s just a question of when and where.
