Cult Classic Movies Get a New Perspective in Alternative Neon Movie Posters

If you grew up in the ’80s, most of popular culture, from movies like TRON to music videos on MTV, was telling you that everything in the future would be neon. Well, as we all know now, that’s not exactly how the future turned out. I think we can all agree that if the future had a corresponding color, it would probably be beige. (Earth tones, people!)

But there are still those out there who harbor a love for all things neon, like the artists called Van Orton Design, which is actually the artistic collaboration of twin brothers from Turin, Italy. Together they’ve created a series of alternative posters to some beloved cult films, as well as the random classic video game and television series thrown in there for good measure.

Aside from the neon hues, another departure from modern movie posters is that the ones created by Van Orton Design are illustrated as being from the point of view of the film’s protagonist. These days, movie posters are either of the “group of floating heads” all Photoshopped together variety, or the main character standing defiantly with his back to the viewer, almost telling the viewer they’re just too cool to turn around for this poster (well, that, and “check out my butt.”)

A lot of beloved films are represented in this series, from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 and The Shining, to Pulp Fiction, to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and you can check out the entire set in our gallery below. And for more on Van Orton Design’s art, including some cool superhero pieces done for WonderCon this year, and a different collection of cult film movie posters, be sure to check out the Van Orton Design website.
