Comic-Con Preview: The Movies!

This week’s Comic-Con International in San Diego will have panels about some of the most hotly anticipated movies of the coming year (or two in some cases) in the science fiction, horror, comedy, and fantasy genres. Directors, actors, writers, and composers will all be on hand to discuss all the titles that interest you. Get stoked, Comic-Con people!

Europa Report
Thursday, 1:10pm, Hall H
Director Sebastian Cordero will be there to introduce his new film, a science fiction exploration adventure in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Moon. It concerns the first manned expedition to Jupiter’s moon Europa in search of life. A sci-fi movie about science?!? Go figure. Also on the panel is composer Bear McCreary, producer Ben Browning, actress Karolina Wydra, and JPL scientists Steve Vance and Kevin Hand. Moderated by Dr. Phil Plait.

Entertainment Weekly’s The Visionaries
Thursday, 2:30pm, Hall H
Wanna hear Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron, and everything-awesome director Edgar Wright talk about directing? Of course you do.

Ender’s Game and Divergent
Thursday, 3:50pm, Hall H
Wanna sneak peak at two upcoming sci-fi blockbusters? Here’s a way to do that! Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Hailie Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, producer Roberto Orci, and director Gavin Hood give you a heads up on Ender’s Game and then stick around for the first footage of the adaptation of Veronica Roth’s bestselling novel Divergent. Roth will be in attendance along with director Neil Burger, and cast members Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer, Ben Lamb, Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Christian Madsen. And it’s moderated by our own Chris Hardwick!

I Know That Voice
Thursday, 4:45pm, Room 6BCF
Voice actor John DiMaggio takes the audience behind-the-mic of his new documentary about all the people who do cartoon voices. Joining him will be fellow artists Billy West, Rob Paulsen, Dee Bradley Baker, and Fred Tatasciore as well as award-winning voice director Andrea Romano.

The World’s End
Friday, 10:00am, Hall H
Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost return to talk about the final film in their “Blood & Ice Cream” trilogy. With the three of them onstage, you can bet on hilarity. Chris Hardwick will try to maintain order as moderator.

Veronica Mars
Friday, 11:15am, Hall H
You might not be aware of this, but a Veronica Mars movie was funded through Kickstarter (there’s been precious little talk about it… joking). Entertainment Weekly’s Jeff Jensen moderates this panel with producer-director Rob Thomas and stars Kristen Bell, Francis Capra, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, Jason Dohring, Ryan Hansen, Chris Lowell, Tina Majorino, and Krysten Ritter.

Kick-Ass 2 & Riddick

World Premiere of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
Friday, 7:30pm, Ballroom 20
Check out a screening of the newest DC Animated feature film, this one based on Geoff Johns’ Flashpoint story arc. After the screening, there will be a star-studded panel that features Grey’s Anatomy stars Justin Chambers and Kevin McKidd as Flash and Batman, respectively, along with C. Thomas Howell, Cary Elwes, Sam Daly, and a few surprise voice cast members, plus the filmmaking team of producer James Tucker, director Jay Oliva, dialogue director Andrea Romano, screenwriter Jim Krieg, and character designer Phil Bourassa. Moderator Gary Miereanu will add to the fun with a special announcement of the 2014 DCU movie slate.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures
Saturday, 10:45am, Hall H
New movie talk and clips. Legendary’s got Godzilla and Seventh Son and Warner’s got 300: Rise of an Empire, Gravity and The LEGO Movie. Chris Hardwick is your host for what is sure to be one of the most talked-about events at Comic-Con.

Lionsgate
Saturday, 1:45pm, Hall H
Same deal, but with their movies I, Frankenstein and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
