These Dancing Drones Prove the Rise of the Machines Will Be Groovy

The one thing you can rely on at the Consumer Electronics Show is that you will never be too far from a groovy beat, pumping at max volume from a loudspeaker the size of a miniature horse. Even after spending hours on the convention hall floor, there’s soemthing about the sweet strains of Drake or the pulsing beat of some nameless EDM artist that will get your blood pumping and put a little pep in your step. Whereas dance fever used to be exclusively the purview of humans, it is now spreading to our machines, as evidenced by these dancing drones I spotted at the Parrot USA booth while at CES.

After making a dramatic entrance, a tiny armada of nine Parrot Bebop Drones performed what I can only hope is not a mating ritual. The synchronized display may not give the Jabbawockeez a run for their money, but it was definitely a nice sneak peek at the sillier side of the singularity.

The Parrot Bebop Drones featured in the video retail for $449.99 and come equipped with a 14-megapixel fisheye camera, a built-in wifi hotspot, and app-enabled controls that let you record 1080p HD streaming video while piloting it from your iOS or Android-enabled device.

Take a peek at the launch video to see the drones in action outside the CES floor:
