Breaking Down CAPTAIN MARVEL’s First Official Photos!

Warning: There are potential spoilers ahead for Captain Marvel!

Brie Larson teased some internet breaking reveals, and she delivered when EW debuted the first official pictures from Captain Marvel. Larson had previously been spotted on the set wearing a different version of Carol Danvers’ signature costume, but we finally got to see the final Captain Marvel outfit…and it’s glorious. EW also dropped some spoiler-ific details about the story, and today’s Nerdist News is tackling the biggest reveals!

Join host and Kree sleeper agent, Jessica Chobot, as she runs down the most pertinent details from EW‘s cover story. The article gave some context about Captain Marvel’s green costume by establishing that the film opens with Carol fully empowered and a member of the Kree Starforce. EW‘s report attempted to be cagey about who Jude Law is playing in the pics, but we already know he’s Mar-Vell, Carol’s comic book predecessor.

It’s hard to pick which images have us more excited: the glimpse of Samuel L. Jackson as a young Nick Fury or Lashana Lynch as Maria “Photon” Rambeau. In the comics, Monica Rambeau was the second Captain Marvel, before eventually taking the codename Photon. Lynch’s appearance may be setting up Monica to make her MCU debut sooner rather than later.

The pictures also gave us the first look at the alien Skrulls, including their commander, Talos. Rogue One bad guy Ben Mendelsohn is playing Talos in the movie, and one of the pics showed Talos in his human form as he infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. two decades ago. Since Captain Marvel is set in the ’90s, it seems likely that the Skrull presence on Earth won’t be fully repelled in the film. If so, it potentially paves the way for a Secret Invasion storyline.
