Here’s Your Official First Look at CAPTAIN MARVEL

Update: Because everyone loves a good plot twist, Entertainment Weekly has added 10 more exclusive Captain Marvel photos, including first-looks at Starforce, Jude Law’s Mar-Vell that they won’t call Mar-Vell, Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull leader Talos, younger Nick Fury, Lashana Lynch as Monica Rambeau’s mother Maria Rambeau, and more.

Original Post:

The dream of the ’90s is alive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the dust-filled nightmare that was Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios is taking audiences back to the 1990s for Captain Marvel, their first film headlined by a woman superhero. On Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly revealed the official first look at Brie Larson in her full-on Captain Marvel regalia and while it doesn’t feature the character’s beloved mohawk, it looks as though Carol Danvers has leapt right off the page.

Renderings of Larson’s version of Carol Danvers have appeared previously on merchandise and in concept art, but this is our first official look at Larson in the costume she’ll be wearing on the big screen.

Captain Marvel, which hits theaters on March 8, 2019, is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and unlike many other MCU movies marking a character’s cinematic debut, it will “[sidestep] the traditional origin-story template,” according to Entertainment Weekly. The film centers on Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot-turned-spacefaring superhero whose half-human, half-alien (specifically Kree) DNA gives her incredible powers.

In Captain Marvel, we’ll meet a Carol Danvers who already has her powers and has left Earth behind to fight alongside Starforce, “an elite Kree military team” led by a commander played by Jude Law who is widely believed to be another classic Marvel character, Mar-Vell. However, Carol soon finds herself called back to her home planet of Earth to battle one of the deadliest foes the Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced yet: the Skrulls, a shapeshifting alien race hellbent on conquering the galaxy.

The one thing that Marvel and Entertainment Weekly didn’t show us? High-res photos of Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, the Skrull leader. Fingers crossed that we’ll see his face, as well as a two-eyed Nick Fury, and other familiar faces when we finally get a trailer for this hotly anticipated addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
