Rey Mysterio Just Wrestled in a Comics-Accurate Wolverine Costume

Former WWE superstar Rey Mysterio is arguably the most famous luchador (masked wrestler) of all time, and one of his trademarks is wearing custom outfits based on superheroes such as Daredevil and Captain America to the ring. This past weekend during a match, Mysterio (not to be outdone by Seth Rollins’ SummerSlam Thanos costume) did it again, donning the yellow and blue spandex Hugh Jackman was afraid of as Wolverine.

Mysterio teamed with Rey Fenix and Bandido against the Golden Elite (The Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi). Even though his team lost, there are two things that we can learn from watching Rey move around the ring as he does. The first is that for a person at 43 years of age to bounce around like he is in his mid-20s is amazing (or in this case, uncanny). The second is that seeing the costume in action makes us realize that the movies definitely could have used this suit for the world’s most dangerous mutant.

What’s interesting about this match is that it did not take place in a WWE ring. When the general public thinks of professional wrestling, WWE is the only thing that comes to mind. It’s like assuming that Marvel and DC are the only two comic book companies in existence. Just like there are fantastic independent comic books, there is also great independent wrestling.  Cody Rhodes, the son of legendary wrestler Dusty Rhodes, and the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) put on the most significant independent wrestling show in history, called All In, where Mysterio’s match took place. They hosted over 10,000 fans in the Sears Centre in Chicago Illinois.  Other matches included the Green Arrow himself, Stephen Amell, vs. Christopher Daniels and Kenny Omega vs. Pentagon, Jr.

Mysterio’s match is just a taste of the action from All In.  Like there are fun alternatives to mainstream comics, there are also alternatives to mainstream wrestling.

So what do you think? What superhero would you like Rey Mysterio to embody next? If you watched All In, what was your favorite match? Let us know on Facebook or sound off in the comments below.
