Breaking Down the First Look at Captain America’s AVENGERS 4 Suit

Warning: There Are Potential Spoilers Ahead for Avengers 4!

Avengers 4 may not have an official title yet, but it’s creeping closer and closer. Infinity War left the Avengers in pretty bad shape, but most of the original members survived “the Snappening.” Marvel has hidden its Avengers secrets well, but we may have finally seen a glimpse of Captain America‘s new costume in the next film. Today’s Nerdist News is breaking out the Cosmic Cube to figure out what it means.

Join host and Cap’s alternate Bucky, Jessica Chobot, as she examines the new pics posted by MCU News and Tweets. Our first takeaway is that Captain America is no longer copying Thor’s godly beard. Instead, Steve Rogers is once again clean shaven, and he’s rockin’ an outfit which looks a lot like his costume from the first Avengers movie. Except this outfit has scaled armor like his comic book costume.

One of the more subtle changes is that Cap is sporting an Avengers logo on his shoulder. It’s likely a visual cue that the Avengers, or what’s left of them, are officially back together for the final battle against Thanos. That exercise in team branding probably wouldn’t have been necessary if they were immediately taking the fight to Thanos. So we still expect a time jump that explores what the MCU is like after half of humanity has been turned to dust.

Perhaps that’s one of the reasons Cap is going old school with this uniform. At his best, Captain America is a symbol of hope and freedom. His greatest superpower isn’t his strength or agility, it’s his ability to inspire and lead. If this is Chris Evans‘ last performance as Cap, it seems fitting he’ll be given one more chance to portray Captain America in all of his glory.
