Brian Posehn’s “Carol of the Bells” Cover is Holiday Black Magic

‘Twas the week before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Except for Brian Posehn, who I would classify as a “hilarious comedian” rather than a “creature.” (Calling someone a “creature” just seems rude, don’t you think?) Regardless, Posehn (Mr. Show, The Sarah Silverman Program) recently stopped by the Nerdist studios to spread some holiday cheer and talk about his new film Uncle Nick, a holiday comedy in which he plays the titular drunk uncle, hellbent on ruining the yuletide cheer with his liquor-fueled antics.

Although a glass of mulled wine or spiked eggnog sounds particularly tempting right about now, we resisted reenacting his on-screen debauchery, and instead had Posehn grace our earholes with his rendition of that yuletide classic, “Carol of the Bells.” The results are nothing short of holiday magic—presuming said holiday magic was conjured by a warlock summoning eldritch powers, unleashing his stygian might upon an unsuspecting public. Personally speaking, I think this is what Mykola Leontovych envisioned when he composed the carol back in 1904. In fact, I would wager that this is the ancient Ukranianan folk chant “Shchedryk,” on which “Carol of the Bells” is based, was only created so that one day this cover version might exist. But don’t take our word for it—watch for yourself in the video above.

Uncle Nick is available now on VOD.
