BATMAN Telltale Game Trailer Game Breakdown!

What’s that in the distance? The knowledge that the next rad Batman videogame is just a few weeks away?! YES! Telltale just dropped the trailer for their very own Bat-game and it looks amaaaazing, so we’re breaking it down right here on Nerdist News!

The trailer opens with Alfred being Alfred, asking an injured Bruce Wayne to stop being Batman. Meanwhile, we get our first look at Telltale’s take on Gotham City, as well as the Batcave, which look somewhere between the animated series’ art deco vision and Christopher Nolan‘s more realistic view. We also get a glimpse of the Batmobile in the bottom left corner, which looks a little like an RC car in design…

Telltale has claimed that the new game will have a bigger emphasis on adventure and detective work than combat, making this more of a Bruce Wayne game than a Batman game. But, we do still catch a peek at the new Batsuit, which looks a little more like the comics’ version than what we saw on the big-screen. There’s also a construction sign that says “Future home of Thomas and Martha Wayne Memorial Hospital” in front of what we assume is Wayne Manor. Whatever it is, it’ll probably play into some Gotham City politics the game might be leaning towards.

But how could we forget about the bad guys? A big ol’ group of baddies rush a possible City Hall, passing a “Re-elect Mayor Hill” sign on their way. Mayor Hill has had a few different iterations in the past, appearing as a bad guy in the comics, and a pro-Batman mayor in the animated series. However, a sign that reads “Harvey Dent for Mayor” all but confirms Hill as a bad guy, as their team promotes “finally putting your foot down” to stop political corruption.

And then we got some plot in the form of possible love interests: reporter Vicki Vale and the only super villain we’ve seen so far, Catwoman! With the lack of super villains, the heavy emphasis on Dent, and the Falcone crime family, this game seems to be inspired by more mafia focused storylines. Based on the episodic nature of Telltalle games, we’re assuming we’ll see a new villain in every chapter.

There’s also a blood-spattered British dude ranting about an impending revolution. Another possible superhero? This game is meant to tell the story of Batman’s earliest years in operation, so I think we’re definitely in for some surprises come August 2nd, when Episode 1 of the game drops.

But what do you guys think? Is this the Batman game we deserve? Are you psyched to delve deeper into Bruce Wayne’s broken mind? Is this just an homage to The Dark Knight Rises, which came out four years ago almost exactly? Let’s discuss!
