If you have ever driven a car before, there is a 100 percent chance that you’ve put on some sunglasses, cracked all the windows, blasted music that makes you feel slick, and pretended you were a getaway driver, 2005 pewter Honda CR-V be damned. The most crucial ingredient to this, of course, is the song selection. It’s hard to feel cool driving a getaway car if Kidz Bop 5 is blaring.
While Nerdist was hanging out at our Backyard Bash in Austin at SXSW this year, we had Baby Driver‘s Edgar Wright, Jon Hamm, Ansel Elgort, and Eiza Gonzaléz talk to us about everything that went into the new endorphin-triggering, getaway driving action thriller. Since music is such a crucial narrative device in Baby Driver–the titular driver drowns out his piercing hearing impairment by blasting music in his headphones while he chauffeurs around a rotating cast of criminals–we asked the crew what songs would begin their personal heist music playlists. Each panel participant had vastly different answers which makes me curious if their musical predilections are indicative of their driving styles as well. Perhaps next year we can have the Baby Driver director and cast back at Banger’s for some go-kart racing.
To see just how different each answer was, check out the video above and then jam out to each song in our Spotify playlist. Also let us know what would lead off your heist playlist? Right now, I think I would probably blast “Helter Skelter.”
Also be sure to check on the Nerdist Instagram for more of Edgar Wright’s and John Hamm’s music choices!

Matt Grosinger is the music editor of Nerdist and swears he is a responsible driver that would make a terrible getaway driver.
