AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Directors Endorse Anna Kendrick as Squirrel Girl

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Directors Endorse Anna Kendrick as Squirrel Girl

Happy Monday, everyone! Yeah, I know Mondays can suck. But today’s Movie Morsels has just the thing to cure those post-weekend blues. With an update on Anna Kendrick (pictured above in Mr. Right) and her campaign to become the unbeatable Squirrel Girl, a new image from The Dark Tower, word on Ben Affleck‘s next project, and much more…

Avengers: Infinity War

Squirrel Girl

Well, this is certainly nuts. Remember earlier this summer when the ever charming Anna Kendrick announced she’d like to play Marvel’s fan-favorite character Squirrel Girl? Well, Yahoo Movies has spoken with Marvel’s two top directors, Joe and Anthony Russo (who helmed Captain America: Civil War and will next tackle Avengers: Infinity War), about Kendrick’s remarks, and the two have expressed their support for this impeccable pairing of actor and role:

“It would be perfect casting, and we’re huge Anna Kendrick fans,” said Joe Russo.

Brother Anthony, however, immediately added that the two have their “hands full trying to tell the story we have with our preexisting characters.”

Joe then remarked, “Anthony would probably die from exhaustion if we introduced another character.”

Which prompted Anthony to say, “That’s not to say we’re not going to introduce a new character.”

While it’s still unlikely that Squirrel Girl will figure into Civil War (this “new character” slot could well turn out to be Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, on whom the directors plead the fifth), now that Kendrick has the support of both Edgar Wright and the Russos, is it really beyond reason to expect the rodent-themed adventurer to appear on screen at some point?

The Dark Tower

Young actor Tom Taylor has tweeted the first official photo of himself as Jake Chambers, the sidekick to Idris Elba’s Gunslinger in the upcoming film version of The Dark Tower. Granted, it’s not the clearest shot of Jake, but that fact that this tweet includes a direct quote from the character in Stephen King’s books bodes well for the overall faithfulness of this adaptation…

Bad Boys for Life

Bad Boys

Director Joe Carnahan has a few words to say about what we can expect from his long-awaited Bad Boys sequel, Bad Boys for Life

Carnahan has told io9 that the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence threequel features “the strongest script of any of those movies. Hands down. In a walk over.”

“Unless you’re Toy Story 3, usually third ones aren’t the strongest, and I think this one will be the strongest of the trilogy thus far… There’s a lot of funny shit in this movie. And there’s also a very mysterious, but tonally spot-on story that I think is kind of perfect for where we are in this day and age, where the guys are and reflectively, a very modern take on these guys. It’s kind of what becomes of Bad Boys when they’re not boys anymore.”

Witness for the Prosecution

Justice League Rick and Morty

Finally today… Besides directing and starring in Live by Night (based on the Dennis Lehane thriller and opening January 13) and the next solo Batman movie, Ben Affleck has just signed on to helm an adaptation of the classic Agatha Christie story “Witness for the Prosecution.” The tale was previously adapted by the legendary Billy Wilder in the 1957 film classic of the same name starring Charles Laughton and Marlene Dietrich.
