In six years of professionally covering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I have learned one thing: people really want Cap and Bucky to kiss. Okay, make that two things: if you have an interview with Anthony Mackie, it will inevitably go hilariously and spectacularly off the rails. Case in point: at 2013’s San Diego Comic-Con, Mackie and Frank Grillo went down the Captain America: The Winter Soldier press line making falcon noises and systematically dropping every reporter’s microphone. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, it was revealed that Mackie’s presence on set drops productivity by 10%. But it’s worth it to have a conversation with the quick-witted, always amiable actor because even when he derails your line of questioning with a unreasonably funny and unexpected riff, you’ll leave with a smile on your face.
And that is precisely what happened when our correspondent Markeia McCarty sat down with Mackie, Winston Duke (M’Baku), and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) to discuss Avengers: Infinity War. In spite of Markeia’s valiant efforts at seriously questioning the trio about Wakanda, Thanos, and their character arcs leading into Marvel’s most ambitious movie to date, the interview metamorphosed into a whirlwind of weird bits, Eric B and Rakim references, and so much more. But don’t take my word for it — watch the silliness for yourself in the video above.
