A New HEY ARNOLD! TV Movie is On the Way

There have been many reports lately about Nickelodeon digging through its vast archive of ’90s programming to see if there’s still life left in the shows on which we grew up. Most notably, Nickelodeon has launched The Splat, a Teen Nick programming block and web presence that will feature shows like Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats and Hey Arnold!. And now, it seems, our favorite football head is set to be revived in the form of a television movie.

Show creator Creator Craig Bartlett is writing the movie and says the story “picks up where the original series ended and resolves unanswered plotlines — including the whereabouts of Arnold’s parents, long missing from the program.”

Russell Hicks, president of content development and production for Nickelodeon Group, spoke more broadly about Nickelodeon’s nostalgia surge, saying, “Kids who grew up on these characters are now of the age that they are having kids and families themselves. Our library has come to fruition and it’s time for it to start coming back to life.”

He also hinted that the Hey Arnold! movie won’t be a carbon copy of the original series. But what does this all mean? Join Jessica Chobot as she explains it all—Clarissa-style—on today’s episode of Nerdist News.

Hey: at least they won’t really have to change Gerald’s hairstyle—it’s probably more in style now than it was in 1996.

That’s all for today’s show! Let us know your thoughts on a Hey Arnold! revival in the comments below. Then be sure to relive the highlights of this weekend’s shocking Doctor Who on our brand-new after show, The Doctor Who Companion!
