The Internet doesn’t think you have enough options to waste time at work. At least, that’s one explanation for this. Or maybe it’s that the promise of HTML5 along with Javascript make things like this possible, so why not? Either way, developer Alon Zakai has ported a playable version of DOOM to web browsers. You can play the pioneering first-person shooter game right in your Firefox or Safari window.
It’s not the most elegant gaming experience, to say the least, but if you want to go (very) old school and just go roaming around shooting stuff, this’ll do the trick.

Pretty much runs like dookie on every machine I’ve tried it on so far. Nice try for Html 5. I’ve not seen that before. Most of the FPS’s from this era have all been done in JAVA many times over.
i hear a lot about doom being the grandfather of FPS, but didn’t wolfenstine 3d (sure i didn’t spell it right) come first? i’m sure there some FPS before that, but Wolf-3d was the first one that remember being popular enough that a number of my friends had it. I remember we snuck copies onto a number of the computers at school (that were only used for a “typing” class. this was i wanna say a few years before doom, but i could be remember it wrong. i’ve played both and was just wondering what was so ground breaking about Doom?
HTML5/Javascript is a difference, especially since some devices won’t play well with Flash (or at all; thank you, Mr. Jobs). This version also brought the music with it, for what that’s worth, so it’s more complete. But the idea is to work with more devices and browsers.
What’s the difference between the playable Doom here and http://www.kongregate.com/games/mike_id/doom-1
Other then the Kongregate is Flash.
