’80s Siri Is Much Less Helpful, But Hilarious

In a day and age where we all carry around little personal machines that allow us to instantly connect with anyone on the planet, while also granting us access to all the information in the world, we sure do complain a lot about how well they work. Like this, for instance: Apple’s Siri constantly doesn’t understand what we’re asking, and even when she does tends to give us information we don’t need! But if we think she can be annoying now, that’s nothing compared to how frustrating she would have been in the ‘80s, as this spot-on parody video shows.

This classic VHS style guide, which we came across at Laughing Squid, is the latest from the YouTube channel Squirrel Monkey, and it looks like the type of thing that would have been used in high school computer classes all the way until 1996. At least. From the dead-on graphics, to the slow pacing, to the corny jokes and horrible music, this is like the world’s worst time machine.

For those of you who are too young to have actually ever seen a video like that in school, that’s really what they were like. And as for the internet, yeah, it was really that slow and annoying, and a program like S.I.R.I. would have been as seemingly pointless as it comes across here.

And we would have loved it!

Because even if we all grew up to be the type of people who complain about how the magical space internet connection is too slow, there was a time we appreciated just how amazing technology was becoming.

Although we always recognized the graphics were pretty bad.
