When the J.J. Abrams-produced science fiction feature Cloverfield made its debut way back in 2008, it was, of course, shrouded in mystery. The trailer dropped with no notice whatsoever and it seemed like almost no one had known what director Matt Reeves and screenwriter Drew Goddard had been working on with a cast of relative unknowns (who have since mostly gone on to major film and television roles, incidentally). After Cloverfield was a modest success at the box office, fans of the universe always wondered: would we ever get a sequel?
Fast forward eight years and now audiences are being treated to 10 Cloverfield Lane, not a direct sequel per se, but more of a cousin to the original movie that most definitely takes place within the same universe. Starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr., 10 Cloverfield Lane feels like a classic thriller in the vein of The Twilight Zone, with some Hitchcock thrown in there for good measure. We had the opportunity to speak with the cast as well as director Dan Trachtenberg about the making of the movie, the entertainment influences that made an impact on the film, and what they would each take into their doomsday bunkers. From comic books to a pool table to puppies and husbands, have a look at our chat with the gang!
Avoid the spoilers at all costs and check out 10 Cloverfield Lane now! You won’t regret it.
