ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME Soundtrack Getting Orchestral Score on Vinyl

For three decades, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda series has wowed gamers worldwide with its consistently great sequels and its ever expanding mythology. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina in Time is widely considered one of the best games in the series, and it also had one of our favorite gaming soundtracks of all-time. Now, 18 years after its first release, Ocarina in Time is finally getting the full orchestra soundtrack it deserves.

iam8bit has announced that it is teaming up with the Materia Collective for a new vinyl release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina in Time soundtrack which is a fantastic way to celebrate Zelda’s 30th anniversary. The double LP album is called Hero of Time, and it’s taking some of the best music from Koji Kondo’s classic score and updating it with a new recording by a 64-piece orchestra. The Nintendo 64 was an impressive system for its time, but it didn’t have the power to pull off a soundtrack like this. We’re very excited to hear the updated takes on our favorite tracks like “Song Of Time,” “Song of Storms,” “Zelda’s Lullaby,” and Kotake and Koume’s theme.

Did we mention how freakin’ beautiful this release is? Because it is gorgeous, and we love the touches like the die-cut Ocarina on the cover, as well as Ryan Brinkerhoff’s stunning album art.

Even the records themselves have been made to resemble the green and purple rupees from the game.

You can find more pictures in our gallery below, and you’ll soon see why we’re so in love with this release. Unfortunately, the album won’t be out this year, but iam8bit has it slated for the second quarter of 2017. Pre-orders are opening up tomorrow, December 9 at 10:00AM PST, and we expect it to be a pretty popular release. For $40, this is totally worth it, and we’ll be ordering a few copies ourselves!
