While Zach Braff’s moviemaking methods may have changed from his Garden State days, some things â like the actor/writer/director’s taste in music, for example â have proven to remain the same. And in the atmospheric trailer for his Kickstarter’d-turned-Focus Features-distributed film, Wish I Was Here, our leading man and auteur find their footing within the commanding indie notes of The Shins.
The organ-infused song strikes a similar chord (see what we did there?), tonally, to that other film, of his but the cast is of an entirely different variety. Instead of the quirky youth and frustration embodied by Natalie Portman and Peter Sarsgaard, we’ve got two even younger kids, Joey King and Pierce Gagnon â tell me that scene at the end doesn’t directly mirror the screaming in the rain scene at the end of Garden State â and a veritable smorgasbord of more established names, like Kate Hudson, Donald Faison, Jim Parsons, Ashley Greene, Josh Gad, James Avery (R.I.P. Uncle Phil), and everyone’s favorite bearded human, Mandy Patinkin.
We wonder if, in this Braffian universe, struggling actor Andrew Largeman knows struggling actor Aidan Bloom. We bet they go up for the same parts all the time.
Wish I Was Here heads to theaters on July 18th. Will you be seeing it? Let us know in the comments.
Will I see it!?
