Yub Step: STAR WARS is Getting an Official Electronic Music Album

There are so many things that make it so easy to immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe, but an important piece of the puzzle is the audio used in the movies. From the films’ musical scores to the iconic sounds of R2-D2’s electronic noises, Darth Vader’s breathing and Chewbacca’s often-imitated roar, sound is huge in making Star Wars great.

Now, music super-producer Rick Rubin is paying tribute to the sounds of Star Wars with a new album of original songs that were created using sounds from the movie. It’s called Star Wars Headspace, it comes out digitally on February 19 and on physical formats on March 18 via Hollywood Records and American Recordings, and it features a who’s who of contemporary electronic music: Flying Lotus, Kaskade, Galantis, Baauer, and plenty of others.

Three songs from the record premiered today on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, and the early returns are promising. Flying Lotus also spoke to Lowe about the record and said of working on it, “I feel like it makes so much sense. I feel real close to these sounds, I feel real close to the Star Wars universe.”

Listen to the three songs below, find the project’s tracklist below, and let us know in the comments what you think of this great idea.
