You’re Never Gonna Keep Him Down: DAREDEVIL/Chumbawamba Mash-Up

Who knew Matt Murdock was so great at tubthumping thumping bad guys to a 90’s beat? Chumbawamba’s infectious 1997 hit “Tubthumper” might’ve been a one-hit wonder stateside, but there are decidedly more than one hits in this hilarious video. Synced to include all of the best fight scenes (and drinking scenes) from Netflix’s Daredevil, YouTube user funkyjunkie mashed-up these beats and beatdowns to hilarious effect. Matt gets knocked down, but he gets up again. Matt’s foes get knocked down, and they probably need a longer recovery time.

It’s a little sobering to think that there are a generation of burgeoning nerds out there who are transitioning from adolescence into adulthood who never got to live this song as it was meant to be lived: at a middle school dance. Speaking from experience, it also made for a great high school dance song, and a great college bar song, but I have some seriously epic memories of dancing–read: jumping uncontrollably off-beat–in my seventh and eighth grade years to this jam.

The original video is chock full of 90’s tight shots and closeups and some serious frosted tips. If for some reason you haven’t had the good fortune to see it, by all means check it out here. Of note, “pissing the night away” does not, in fact, refer to pissing. It’s a phrase for “drinking the night away.” [Editor’s Note: It’s British, you guys.]

Turns out, “Tubthumper” isn’t the only nostalgic goodness that Daredevil pairs well with. Check out our previous look at the Daredevil/Night Court opening credit mashup. Kenneth Parcell would love it, and you will too.
