If you missed the opportunity to purchase the original Amityville Horror house when it went up for sale several years ago, and you can’t wait for the Exorcist house in Washington D.C. to go up for sale, we have the next best thing for your goth home-hunting needs — Dracula’s Castle! The Telegraph is reporting that Bran Castle — in which 15th century conqueror Vlad Tepes (a.k.a. Vlad the Impaler) was once imprisoned — in Romania (in the historical region known as Transylvania) is on the market and looking for a buyer. The New York law firm of Herzfeld and Rubin is representing the castle, which has served as home for countless royals and their courts. For details, check out the Bran Castle website.
Of course Bram Stoker’s immortal vampire count wasn’t actually based on the bloodthirsty Tepes. Stoker merely took the Impaler’s nickname (which means “dragon”). Because he liked the sound of it, and it seemed to suit his vampire antagonist at the time he was writing his classic novel. But it’s nevertheless fun to imagine the real-life horrors Tepes committed were in some way connected to the area’s abundant supernatural folklore and legend. And hey, whoever winds up nabbing his crib, give me a holler — I throw a mean Halloween party!
