  1. christina says:

How weird that I am listening to this podcast today 2/26/2014 exactly 20 years ago that Bill Hicks (who Matt brought up) passed away. That made it weird for me!

  2. Bobby says:

I am not bullshitting when I say that my mother and my brother were denied service at Friendly’s for being black. I heard what Matt did and blew up hysterically.

  3. Nick H says:

I second this moment. One of my favorites for sure. I can wholeheartley relate to this whole part of the podcast, being 1 1/2 years out of college in my first job. Cant say how many times ive felt this. Time to do something.

2:13:33 [McCarthy] “That gnawing feeling that there’s something else you’re supposed to be doing, and right now you are wasting your time.”

  4. Clay says:

I need the Apartment Anthologies….also all I can say about this episode is….Well played you fuck.

  5. k e f j w says:

i listened to the whole disclaimer about conspiracy theories but still, you should avoid talking about that stuff. not because it’s offensive, but because it makes you look like a stupid asshole. i’m not patriotic, i don’t believe that the government is some benevolent entity that would never hurt its citizens, but adoptiong extremist beliefs based on youtube videos takes away any sort of credibility. oh, you don’t understand how the buildings fell? you have an opinion on the melting point of steel? what degree do you have again? what understanding of the basic concepts of any subset of science do you have? if you’re going to talk about ghosts and psychics and spirituality on a podcast you have no business talking about the specifics of disasters you clearly don’t understand.

also, the whole “idea of freedom” thing can be most succinctly stated as “bread and circuses.”

i love the podcast and will continue listening forever.

  6. Larry says:

“You think people in a cave did this!” I could not stop laughing at that. I had to rewind it 5 times to keep listening to it. So good.

  7. Paige says:

Al Pacino in Ghostbusters…I died laughing. Please make a sketch video collection of Al Pacino in movies where he doesn’t belong.
    3 hours! Worth it!

    Well played, you fuck.

  8. Lisa says:

I DON’T HAVE 500 WEEKS TO LISTEN TO THIS, GUYS! I’m just kidding. I totally do, and I will, and I will love it. Pete, I swear to god, if you ever make these shorter because some people are weird (in a bad way), I will be supremely displeased. I’m at a point where if any other podcasts I listen to are less than two hours, I feel shortchanged. KEEP IT UP.

  9. Jamie says:

I like that Matt has a joke about people using 9/11 as a benchmark and then using it in his “origin” story. Great call back.

  10. Eric says:

a few issues. There are Bisexual men. I am one, and Matt is being a real dick about it. I don’t care what you “buy”, who are you to accuse me of hiding somethings still, when you have NO IDEA how difficult it is to out yourself as having any non-hetero sexuality. I really liked matt on the live episode, now I think a lot less of him. and Pete, for the love of god, PLEASE stop letting your guests get away with saying shit like that. I know you want to be agreeable and inviting, but come on, man. I don’t listen to shows like this to remind myself of the anxiety I felt while in the closet.

Also, almost every single thing you brought up about 9/11 conspiracies has a level headed, truth based, not government provided explaination. some things you were saying have been debunked for YEARS, and yet you keep saying them. It’s shit like that why people like me dismiss 90% of conspiracies without hearing a word of them, because you say things like “there was no footage” and “there was no debris” there are both of those things, you can see them very easily.

  11. Holy crap! I’ve read ‘Pornified’ too. I am you and you are me. I borrowed it from the library. Do people read books about porn?

  12. Brad says:

I loved this episode, really amazing, very funny. It’s great to hear Pete and Matt share such an intimate conversation with us.

    On the bisexual topic:
It was nice to hear Matt say “I could buy people who want to have sex with everybody,” and then disappointing when he immediately followed that up with, “I just don’t buy male bisexuality.” I don’t want to seem over sensitive, but I’m a bisexual man, I like fuckin’ dudes and ladies, and I’m totally a real thing. It’s hurtful and close-minded to deny that male bisexuality exists, especially when the rest of the podcast is worship at the altar of Keeping and Open Mind.

  13. Sheila says:

People, you don’t have to listen to the whole episode at once. But some of us love longer podcasts!

    Ugh, that sounds dirty…

  14. kevbot says:

“One of the ducks is real!”

  15. robopanda says:

How long is this free podcast? FIVE HUNDRED WEEKS?

  16. Nelson P says:

This is the best because of the longest callback of all time. at 117:42 Pete makes a callback from all the way back to the Sarah Silverman episode.
    FUCKING SHARPSHOOTING.

  17. Andre says:

    “Well played, you fuck.”

  18. Patty Marvel says:

Just got to 1:30:00 of the podcast and the 9/11 talk. I strongly recommend a graphic novel based on the 9/11 Report. The combination of text and graphics lays out the events of that morning and surrounding ones in a way that helps anyone remotely confused about what happened when and who did what. Here’s the GN: http://www.amazon.com/11-Report-Graphic-Adaptation/dp/0809057395

  19. Patty Marvel says:

    I’m absolutely evil.

When Matt asked, “So what’s a good snuff film,” my first thought was, “Schindler’s List.”

    I am so, SO evil.

As for conspiracy theories, check out a book called “Voodoo Histories.” Some of the contortions in logic people come up with – like Princess Diana was actually murdered in some convoluted plot as opposed to simply crashing in a car piloted by a drunk driver – are astonishing. Amazing what people will come up with just to believe SOMEONE is in complete control of this crazy world rather than admit shit just happens. Here’s the link: http://www.amazon.com/Voodoo-Histories-Conspiracy-Shaping-History/dp/B007F8AWDU

As for Matt being a “Pot Sherpa,” I’ve often thought Pete would make a good “Shroom Sherpa.” Sir, if we ever meet, I’d like to take my first trip with you.

  20. Andrew says:

I listened to every glorious second of this. Fantastic.

  21. Nick says:

2:13:33 [McCarthy] “That gnawing feeling that there’s something else you’re supposed to be doing, and right now you are wasting your time.”

You don’t know how much I needed to hear someone else say that. Thank you.

  22. laura says:

How anyone complains about these being too long is beyond my understanding.
The superior length I’ve experienced with YMIW makes me look down on other more petite podcasts with disdain.

  23. Adam Ferguson says:

The Die Hard battery commercial Pete Holmes and Matt McCarthy did together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_pRBC3eIXs

  24. Chris Gerber says:

This is a fantastic splice up video someone made of George C. Scott in Hardcore and Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill. Enjoy!

  25. tzvi says:

You guys believe in 9/11? September only has 10 days dumbies!

  26. melf melfman says:

its so doggone good, i bought me a t-shirt. yep. aye did!

  27. Jake Raven says:

Oh, Pete. Three hours? Going to take a couple of days to steel myself for this one. I’m sure it will be amazing, as your shows always are, but you make it really, really hard to commit to this length of time. I’m sticking around, because no one does what you do as well as you do. But I only have so much podcast love to give. Please keep being your wonderful self. Just, you know, maybe consider being yourself a little more concisely?

  28. joe says:

probably the source of the ‘cannibal eat everyone on the bus’ myth. still a scary ass scene to imagine but not quite eating everyone per se: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Tim_McLean

  29. brd2185 says:

Regardless, this is a great insight into the start of a comedy career. Uber-deep, very interesting

  30. brd2185 says:

Think this was recorded about 6 months ago – Pete mentions just interviewing Howard Kremer and is still saying ‘bi-curious’ for ‘curious.’

  31. Nick says:

I have, literally, been waiting for Matt to be a guest since the inception of this podcast. Well worth the wait!

  32. Alicia says:

I loved this episode. It sounds like you guys are forever friends, which is something to really treasure. Really, really awesome episode.

  33. j charles says:

  34. jsl says:

    definitely do a part 2

  35. Jack says:

Also, the most fun I’ve had all day was singing along to the advertising jingles with you guys!

  36. Jack says:

  37. Josh says:

I think it’s funny cause the conversation goes from wanting others to stop judging you for toying with the idea of conspiracy theories and just letting you play with these ideas, and then go into a discussion of how a literally belief in God is silly because it defies facts we know. I think, like me, you guys hate certainty. I also hate people just saying this is it and I know for certain.
Facts say that God didn’t literally create the world 5000 years ago and facts say that the World Trade Center was not a conspiracy. The belief in something else than what those facts state is a choice to believe. I also find it interesting that both of these beliefs trust in a “higher power”. One is God the other is powerful men, I think both are prone to the same comfort of someone being at the helm, because facts seem to lean toward chaos and chaos seems to scare everyone.
I’m definitely on board with you guys, I hate certainty. Vegan/Paleo/Athiest/Religious, we all have a tendency to think we are right about our choices, but it’s really frustrating when people won’t recognize that it’s just their choice.
