WORLD WAR Z Video Game Trailer Restarts the Zombie Apocalypse

It’s been over a decade since author Max Brooks introduced readers to his vision of the zombie apocalypse in World War Z, and just a few years since Brad Pitt starred in the theatrical adaptation. Now, gamers will get their chance to take on the zombie horde in a World War Z video game. The first trailer debuted Thursday night at The Game Awards, and it has a direct message for humanity: “70,000 years at the top of the food chain…it was fun while it lasted.”

The World War Z game is being developed by Saber Interactive, the studio behind Quake Champions, Timeshift, and Inversion. It’s going to be a cooperative title that places up to four players in survival action scenarios that take place all over the world including New York, Moscow, and Jerusalem. As you can see in the trailer, the zombies are still incredibly fast and they move like they have a hive mind. It’s still really unnerving when they become human walls while scaling buildings and barriers.

Naturally, players will have the opportunity to fight back by “unleashing a storm of firepower with a variety of weapons.” But given the overwhelming nature of the threat, gamers will also have the option to set traps and use the environment to their advantage.

World War Z will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet. The trailer indicates that it’s “coming soon,” so a 2018 premiere is likely.
