Wonder Woman’s Amazon Sisters Get Their Own Series (Exclusive Preview)

When DC’s New 52 started five years ago, creators Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang started their celebrated run on Wonder Woman by giving her people—the Amazons of Themyscira—kind of the short end of the stick. They were portrayed (basically) as barbarians who did some pretty unspeakable things, and Wonder Woman’s mother, the Amazon Queen Hippolyta, was turned to stone within three issues.

Not exactly the best portrayal of a group of characters meant to exhibit the best humanity has to offer.

Thankfully, with the advent of DC Rebirth, writer Greg Rucka has returned to the pages of Wonder Woman and restored the Amazon race as one of noble warriors—not bloodthirsty man-haters—once again. And now, the millennia-long history of the amazing Amazons will be explored in a new miniseries titled The Odyssey of the Amazons. This new miniseries follows the history of warrior women starting thousands of years ago, and comes from the mind of writer (and actor) Kevin Grevioux, best known for his role in the Underworld films.

And you can check out our exclusive preview of the first five pages of Odyssey of the Amazons #1 in our gallery below!

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Don’t miss the start of this new miniseries set in the world of Wonder Woman from writer/actor Kevin Grevioux (New Warriors, Underworld). Years before the birth of Princess Diana, a group of Amazons set out on a globe-spanning quest to find others of their kind, encountering legendary creatures and beings along the way. But their journey soon turns into a rescue mission as two of their own are captured by the legendary Storm Giants of Norse mythology. It’s up to their leader, the stalwart Hessia, to keep them together through the many trials that lie ahead. ”

The Odyssey of the Amazons #1  is due to hit stores on Wednesday, January 25.
