Breaking Down Everything in WONDER WOMAN’s Fearsome New Photo

It’d be inaccurate to say that Wonder Woman hasn’t made her mark on the screen. The first property that should come to mind is the 1970s television series starring Linda Carter—an icon of action-adventure television and comic book adaptations. And of course, Princess Diana of Themyscira has found form in innumerable animated projects. Some feature length. She even snagged a cameo on an episode of The Brady Kids. And who can forget the ’91 Filipino comedy Alias: Batman and Robin? But shockingly enough, the DC fixture will only first land the spotlight of American cinema in this weekend’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Luckily, however, her big screen career won’t end there—the Wonder Woman movie we’ve all been waiting for is primed for 2017, and the very first image for the film has us even more excited.

WonderWoman2

As we can see, Diana won’t be the only Amazonian heroine we’ll be rooting for come Wonder Woman. In the above photo, which debuted over at Entertainment Weekly, star Gal Gadot stands among Wonder Woman’s otherworldly posse. Far left is Lisa Loven Kongsli, a Norwegian actor who’ll be new to most American audiences, playing Themyscira war hero Menalippe, Wonder Woman’s aunt. Beside Gadot is her to-be screen mother Connie Nielsen, as the revered Queen Hippolyta. And far right, the most recognizable face of the bunch: the great Robin Wright, playing the (arguably) even greater General Antiope, also an aunt to Diana.

In addition to seeing the starring lineup in regal and military garb, we get a good glimpse at the backdrop of Themyscira, which seems in keeping with the gritty world set up in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but with room for a bit more visual imagination.

Are you looking forward to next year’s Wonder Woman film? As someone who has seen Batman v Superman, I can tell you that I sure am—Gadot is a highlight. So join Linda Blair clone Jessica Chobot as she breaks down everything above and more in today’s Nerdist News.
