Keanu Reeves Jokes Winona Ryder Calls Him Husband After DRACULA Wedding

Back in 1992, Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula was a smash hit with a star studded cast, including a young Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder. The pair played the movie’s protagonists, Jonathan Harker and Mina Murray, and although they struggled with those British accents (bless their hearts), they nevertheless helped turn the film into a cult classic. Now the pair are reuniting for the rom-com Destination Wedding, and while talking to Entertainment Weekly about the film, Winona dropped a bit of a bombshell, saying that she and Keanu were “probably” married for real on the set of Dracula! Wait, what??

Yes, Winona casually dropped the news in the middle of the interview, saying “We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.” So is Winona not remembering that scene correctly years later? Actually…if you’ve ever listened to the audio commentary for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, there is evidence to suggest she might in fact be right.

It was revealed by Coppola in the commentary track that Dracula was shot entirely on the MGM sound stages in Culver City, except for one scene — the wedding of Harker and Mina. That scene was shot on location at Santa Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Los Angeles, and the priest was a real Greek Orthodox priest in a real ceremony. Coppola even jokes on the commentary about how the two actors are “really married.” Of course, no official legal documents were ever signed, so the two actors aren’t married in the eyes of the law. However, if you go by the rules of the church, then it seems that Winona and Keanu recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary. So FYI Keanu — jade is the traditional stone for 26th wedding anniversaries. Just in case.

Update, 1/8/19:

During an appearance on The Talk in January 2019, Keanu Reeves discussed his “marriage” to Winona Ryder (via Entertainment Weekly). He jokes that Winona will text him saying, “Hello, husband.” Yeah, that’s rather adorable.
