William Shatner to Pen Biography of Friend Leonard Nimoy

In his eulogy for Mr. Spock, Captain James T. Kirk said, “Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most human.” It now appears that William Shatner will have a lot more to say about his friend, in a new biography he is writing about Leonard Nimoy.

Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411 reports that Shatner is currently working on a book titled Leonard: A Fifty Year Friendship that is scheduled for a 2016 release. Shatner is reportedly interviewing people from Nimoy’s past, and has also helped fund a documentary being made by Nimoy’s son about his father.

Leonard Nimoy passed away in February, and Shatner was heavily criticized for not attending his former co-star’s funeral. Shatner said he had a prior charity commitment with the Red Cross and two of his daughters attended the funeral in his place.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the television debut of Star Trek in September of 1966. Although the show only ran for three seasons, ending in June of 1969, the two men would reprise their roles with a slate of Star Trek films starting in 1979. The famous eulogy was delivered in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which was released in 1982.

Few actors have ever been so entwined as a pair as Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. It seems only fitting that William Shatner will honor his friend with his book, a book which will fulfill the needs of the many Star Trek fans who loved Leonard Nimoy.
