WILLIAM SHATNER to Captain First Official STAR TREK Cruise

For decades, there have been Star Trek-themed cruises: places where Trek fans can travel across the oceans to exotic locations with other fans, as well as cast and crew members from their favorite Star Trek television series. But come January 2017, the first official Star Trek: The Cruise will hit the high seas. It will be the first such cruise officially licensed by CBS Studios, which currently controls the property (the television aspect of the property anyway—the movie portion is with Paramount Studios). And what could make it more official than having none other than Captain James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner, as the de-facto Captain of this ship?

Star Trek: The Cruise, launching January 9th, 2017, will not only take Trek fans from Miami to Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay during its journey, but will also offer what organizers are calling a “totally immersive” event, with “intimate speaking engagements with leading scientists, influencers and experts,” as well as parties, games and competitions, all celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, which debuted way back in September of 1966.

Aside from Shatner, other announced guests include Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis (Commander Riker and Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation), Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar from TNG), John de Lancie (Q from TNG), Robert Picardo (The Doctor from Voyager), and James Darren (Vic Fontaine from Deep Space Nine).

Also part of the experience will be the “Enterprise Blues Band,” a  musical group made up of Star Trek actors including Casey Biggs (Damar from DS9) and Vaughn Armstrong, an actor who has notably played twelve different roles across four separate Trek series—including a human, Klingon, Romulan, a Cardassian and Borg. Other actors from the various Trek series are also expected to be announced before the cruise sets sail.

Naturally, this all begs the question: Star Wars World or Star Trek Cruise?
