Why We Need to Calm Down about ROGUE ONE Rumors

Everyone can all calm down about Rogue One. Trust us! This past week, we at Nerdist News have been watching a veritable media meltdown after Page Six reported that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was set to go through a little makeover this summer by way of reshoots because allegedly, the movie “wasn’t testing well.” Rumor had it that execs weren’t completely pleased with the cut, and so the rumor mill got a-churning and every website started spinning their own version of “why reshoots mean this movie will be a disaster.” Then, just a couple of days later, Making Star Wars stoked the rumor-fire saying their sources reported that forty percent of the movie would be reshot over six weeks supervised by Chris McQuarrie.

Finally, today McQuarrie spoke out with a resounding nope saying, “If there are any reshoots on Rogue One, I’m not supervising them. For any outlet to say so is not only wrong, it’s irresponsible. Gareth Edwards is a talented filmmaker who deserves the benefit of the doubt. Making a film — let alone a Star Wars chapter — is hard enough without the internet trying to deliberately downgrade one’s years of hard work.” And he’s so so right.

First of all, let’s talk reality. The Hollywood Reporter’s story on the subject claimed the reshoots were a response to executive screening, but would serve to lighten the tone to give the movie more of a classic ‘Star Wars’ feel. According to the Hollywood Reporter’s sources, the reshoots might even serve to add in Alden Ehrenreich, our brand new young Han Solo to the film. On the other hand, we’re assuming that the second half of that is pure rumor since the final scene of Rogue One is supposed to take place just ten minutes before A New Hope begins, so that wouldn’t make a ton of sense.

But hey, what it all boils down to is: reshoots aren’t a bad sign! They can only make a movie better. Tons of major blockbusters have gotten the reshoot treatment for the better. And if every movie had that sweet, sweet Disney money, I bet they’d give all of them a once-over. So everyone can calm down: Disney execs won’t be letting Star Wars fall apart! If they are doing reshoots, it’s only to make what’s going to be an amazing film even better!

So what are you guys thinking? Are you still worried about these reshoots? Do you think an appearance of Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo will find a way into Rogue One? Let’s discuss!
