Thanks to the mind-blowing success of Pokémon Go and the upcoming hybrid handheld/console NX, we knew that Nintendo was looking to expand into mobile gaming. But no one predicted that legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto would take the stage during today’s Apple event to unveil Super Mario Run, the new mobile game coming to the App store. So today’s Nerdist News is all about why you should be stoked about what’s coming up from the new Nintendo and Apple alliance. This could turn out to be a great thing for gamers.
The biggest fear is that Nintendo could follow Sega’s example and get out of the hardware business. Or perhaps they would even go the Konami route and dramatically cut back on their triple-A titles while focusing on the mobile market. Nerdist News host and Mushroom Kingdom explorer Jessica Chobot is here to explain that the new deal with Apple actually gives Nintendo some much needed breathing room to be experimental with the NX and beyond. This could even mean that Nintendo will have more freedom to innovate without relying on the NX alone.
We also love the fact that Super Mario Run will be microtransaction free. You’ll only need one hand to play Mario’s newest adventure, and it looks like a lot of fun. If that’s not enough Nintendo for you, it was also announced that Pokémon Go is coming to Apple Watch.
What do you think about the new Nintendo and Apple partnership? And when are we going to get a high end Legend of Zelda mobile game? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
