With Avengers: Age of Ultron right around the corner, and Ant-Man and Fantastic Four hot on its heels, 2015 is shaping up to be one hell of year for fans of superhero cinema. Yet for all the Marvel Cinematic Universe pomp and circumstance, these films might not be the best superhero film of 2015. I know, I know–you might be thinking “Didn’t you just write a book about the Avengers that you can order now?” The answer is yes, I did. You might also be thinking, “Isn’t that kind of a lame way to shamelessly plug your book that you can order now?” The answer is yes, yes it is. You might even be thinking, “Stop plugging your book that you can order now and tell us which damn movie is the best superhero film of the year!” The answer is okay fine, I’m sorry, and I’m glad you asked because it comes out this week. The best superhero film of the year may well be–drumroll please–Furious 7.
That’s right: the seventh iteration in Universal’s adrenaline-fueled, musclebound, physics-defying franchise isn’t just a whole lot of unbridled fun; it’s a genuinely solid piece of superhero cinema. Dom Toretto and the gang might not be superheroes in the traditional sense (although I’m not convinced their cars aren’t reinforced with vibranium), but they manage to perform larger-than-life, almost inhuman acts of daring, derring-do, and straight-up irresponsible driving. So, today on The Dan Cave, I’m going to explain why you should see Earth’s Meatiest Heroes before you catch Earth’s Mightiest next month.
What do you think? Which is your favorite entry in the Fast & Furiverse? What other movie desperately needs Jason Statham in it? Let me know in the comments below or tell me on Twitter (@osteoferocious).
