WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? Renewed for New Season by The CW

Since its return to the airwaves last year, The CW’s latest iteration of Whose Line Is It Anyway? with new host (and Nerdist favorite) Aisha Tyler has been top notch, but more importantly, has been a major hit with audiences, delivering some of the network’s highest ratings in years. Knowing that, it’s no surprise to learn that The CW has renewed the series for a brand new 24-episode cycle that will air in 2015.

One of the major changes to the series has been the inclusion of a celebrity guest appearances in every episode. Everyone from Nikita’s Maggie Q to Supernatural’s Misha Collins have popped in for an appearance to hilarious effect. In fact, sometimes, like when the show had on Glee’s Kevin McHale, the guests get really into the act and actually end being a major component to a scene. You never know what these guys are going to deliver when they have no script, and the results are astounding.

What we can only hope for now is, at some point in the near future, Whose Line? has an epic-scale crossover event with @Midnight to determine which series can wear the crown of best improv comedy series on television… oh wait, scratch that, The League would totally just sneak in, hit everyone in the crotch and run off with the trophy. Back to the drawing board.

Look, I love @Midnight but it’s NOT an improv show. It’s obvious that the contestants are told about the questions and videos in advance. The contestants are ALWAYS looking down to read whatever notes they made for themselves before the show as they answer the question.

I don’t think they’re told about the videos and questions in advance. There have been many times where the contestants have been surprised by what they see. Granted, I am surprised by how fast they can come up with answers for the hashtags, but it’s possible they’re just hat talented, too. Even Chris has been surprised by some of the videos he’s seen. But there really is only one person who can tell us for sure….Chris? Maybe he’ll read this.

If you can find the old BBC versions to watch I’d recommend them. Ryan and Colin are there for most of them along with a great mix of comedians

I thought the second season saw a major drop in ratings?
Oh well, good for Aisha. That’s all I can muster up though, unfortunately. Ryan, Colin and Wayne are all great, but man is it boring to see them yet again after the successful ABC run. It’s just the same dynamic that went on for years… again. There are so many great improv comics now (some of which who actually have 4th’d on this show. Keegan Michael Key!?! Awesome), that to see them go back to these guys is a bummer. And nothing against them personally even; just the roles they occupy. Wayne is there to sing, Colin is there to host the news game, etc. It’s so boring. Improv should NOT be boring.
I wonder why Com Central doesn’t try their own improv show? I’d LOVE to see something from a network like that, pulling from the same pool of comedians we see on @Midnight? Awesome. Give Matt Besser a long-form improv show! Give Ben Schwartz; he did a great improv special in the terribly named, “House of Lies Live”.
But that’s just my opinion. Again, good for CW, good for Aisha… ah, good for Ryan, Colin and Wayne too. They’re probably super cool guys. Show’s just boring imo.
