When Will We Have Ultron-Level A.I.?

Sooner than you might think.

In my latest Because Science, I’m taking a look at the different levels of artificial intelligence or A.I. and the dreaded “singularity.” Very generally, there are two types of A.I., weak or “narrow” A.I. and strong A.I.. The former is sitting in your phone right now, ready to calculate a faster route to the movie theater, the latter hasn’t been created yet. But when strong A.I. does burst onto the scene, which many A.I. researchers think will happen in the next few decades, human life will change forever. We don’t know what will happen. Maybe we’ll get an Ultron.
