What Rockstar’s RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 Announcement Tells Us

Update: On Tuesday morning, Rockstar Games dropped the official announcement of its next Red Dead game. Officially titled Red Dead Redemption 2, the game is scheduled to release in Fall of 2017.

It’s been just over six years since Red Dead Redemption wrapped up the saga of John Marston and left gamers clamoring for more adventures in the open-world Western franchise. Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare is still one of our favorite DLC releases of all-time, but it just wasn’t enough to quell our desire for “rain and wind and weather,” as well as some of the best gameplay of the last console generation. Now, our long wait may be over, and today’s Nerdist News is ridin’ rawhide on the imminent reveal of Red Dead Redemption 2!

Join Nerdist News host, and the fastest gun in the west, Jessica Chobot, as she breaks down the latest teases from Rockstar Games and puts together the pieces of what we know so far about the follow up to Red Dead Redemption. For starters, we may not be done with John Marston after all. Although the previous game in the series effectively wrapped up Marston’s story, we could be jumping back in time for a prequel adventure that will explore Marston and Dutch van der Linde’s gang in their prime. But what really has us excited is the likely expansion of the world that players can explore. If the map that leaked earlier this year is legitimate, it means that we’re gonna be very happy with this game!

There is also word that the sequel may be called Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West, which could be teasing a Magnificent Seven riff, or possibly even some actual legends from that era, including Billy the Kid. But if there are seven playable characters in the game, then that’s more than Grand Theft Auto V managed to pull off! That may be tricky, but if any company can make that work, it’s Rockstar Games.

Are you excited about the sequel to Red Dead Redemption? And what do you want to see in the game? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
