Weâre getting a new Nintendo system next year! Earlier today, Nintendo finally announced that the Nintendo NX is coming out in March 2017 with the new Legend of Zelda as one of the launch games. Beyond that, nobody outside of Nintendo has any firm details about the NX…and we have so many questions! Todayâs Nerdist News lays out the mystery of Nintendoâs new console and offers a few theories of our own!
Join Nerdist News host and protector of the Tri-Force, Jessica Chobot as she runs down what we know about Nintendo NX and what its gimmick might be. Because letâs face it, Nintendo loves its gimmicks. Going all the way back to R.O.B. with the NES to the Wiimote and the Wii U GamePad, thereâs almost always something that allows Nintendo to present its systems as something more than a mere console.
So, what are we gonna get from the NX? The fusion of a home console and a portable game system? The ability to play games using our smartphones as controllers? Augmented Reality Headsets to give gamers an affordable taste of VR?
But what if NX isnât even a console as we know it? Could NX be the software that allows fans to play their games on any device they want, including computers and phones? Itâs plausible, as Nintendoâs Satoru Iwata has previously expressed admiration for Appleâs iOS. Could NX be Nintendoâs answer to that?
Thatâs not all, gamers! Itâs Beta Week here at Nerdist, and today, live at 3pm PST, Jessica will be keeping the Nintendo NX conversation going for the very first episode of Nerdist News Live, coming to you here at Nerdist, Facebook, and YouTube!
