WESTWORLD Returns in April and First Trailer Shows Violent Delights

Season one of Westworld ended with worlds in disarray. Delos Inc. lost its tenuous grasp on its creation. The narrative broke in basically the most bananas way possible, and the hosts, led by Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), started to fight back. To preview what’s ahead in season two, HBO went all out by purchasing their first Super Bowl commercial in 20 years. Series co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan directed the minute and half glimpse, and like with Westworld, the footage is hauntingly beautiful. It gives us look at what happens when man-made nature and the technology behind it collide, and though it’s violent, it’s also elegant. Watch:

Seeing all the hosts taking a fierce stand is so very satisfying. Dolores and Maeve (Thandie Newton) in particular look ready to get answers by any means necessary. This probably means the humans are utterly screwed, but isn’t that kind of okay? One of the questions the series confronts is who deserves punishment, and more importantly, who decides they are deserving of it. It continually makes you think.

The trailer also drops the news that the sci-fi drama will return to HBO on April 22. I know it’s no Game of Thrones, but isn’t it nice to have more robots and the discovery of more of Delos’ worlds in our near future? Feast your eyes on a few stills in the gallery below.
