‘Weird Al’ Recreates ‘Tacky’ Music Video With Live Footage from his ‘Mandatory World Tour’

With his latest clip, “Weird Al” Yankovic has turned the live music video game on its head. During his global tour this year, which spanned from May to October, he performed 112 shows and opened each one with his Pharrell-parodying hit “Tacky”, and we’ll let “Weird Al” himself describe the new video from here:

“Between May 12 and Oct. 9, 2015, my band and I performed 112 concerts as part of our Mandatory World Tour, and almost every show started out with a performance of my song “Tacky.” As the audience watched on a giant LED screen, a camera crew would follow me as I sang the song, starting from some point outside (or deep within) the venue and eventually winding up on stage. It was always fun for us, because obviously the venues were different every night and every performance of the song was unique. We recorded about half of these performances, and I’ve spent the last few days editing together this little memento. Hope you like it – see if your city made the cut!”

The new clip strongly mirrors the song’s original video, but instead of “Weird Al” and his celebrity cameos gallivanting through what looks like an empty hotel, this time it’s only Al dancing and gyrating his way past various backstage areas, sidewalks, a park, a dock, and a zoo before finally taking the stage. He even gets up close and personal with a car that drives past him as he name-drops Kanye West, and gets right in the face of an older woman as he sings to her with a wide-eyed and unrelenting stare.

If there’s any news here besides the video itself, its that at the end of the clip, Weird Al writes “SEE YOU IN 2016!” Great, now we’re losing sleep over Kanye’s upcoming album AND whatever “Weird Al” has planned.
