Weezer has always been big on shtick and noveltyâwithout sacrificing musicianship, of course. The path to their latest record, The White Album, has been no different; in fact, itâs been an especially revelrous trip to this week’s long-awaited release.
The âThank God for Girlsâ video was filled with outrageous cannoli explosions. The âLA Girlsâ clip was Baywatch-esque with plenty of growing pains. And the âKing of the Worldâ videoâperhaps more fun than all the restâis just a âkingâ running on a peer wearing a crown and drinking booze from a goblet. So, when Rivers Cuomo dressed in full Elvis garb for Weezerâs Tonight Show performance of âKing of the Worldâ last night, no one batted a lash.
The band pulled off a tight, veteran performance of the LPâs most anthemic single. They havenât lost a step since their self-titled debut in 1994, and Fallon made note of that. âThatâs how you do it right there! Thatâs how you do it!â he yelled after the performance, White Album in hand.
The new record is now available at iTunes and Amazon. Grab a physical copy at the bandâs website or stream the album on Spotify. Weezer is also heading out on tour with Panic! At the Disco and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness beginning June 10.
